American Dark tells true stories about real people, many of whom died violently or are still missing. These are the standards every story is held to.

Sourcing

Hauntings and the paranormal

Reports of ghosts, sounds and sightings are presented as reports: what witnesses, staff and visitors say they experienced. They are not presented as established fact. When a famous legend is contradicted by the historical record, the story says so.

Victims and families

We avoid gratuitous detail and do not speculate about private individuals who were never charged with a crime. For open missing-persons cases, each story names the agency handling the case, because tips still solve cold cases.

Corrections

If you find an error, please email contact@americandarkbook.site with the story name and, if possible, a source. Verified corrections are made promptly.

Visiting these places

Some locations are museums or hotels that welcome visitors. Others are private homes, closed buildings or active crime scenes. Always check whether a place is open to the public, respect “No Trespassing” signs, and never disturb residents or graves.
